You're so vain

Who will be the first to have XRI vanity plates for their car?

Is the '=' an approved character?

Here in Texas, a personalized plate is limited to 6 characters, chosen from the set of A-Z, 0-9, space, period, dash and "silhouette of Texas". Unfortunately, "silhouette of Texas" is not a valid XRI character, using a vanity license plate number prefixed by an equals sign as an XRI is not going to always be possible. I'm not sure what the status of getting Texas its own ISO10646 character code is; probably it's in the queue just after the assignment for the character for the "Artist formerly known as Prince".
